Since many part changes were made during model years, the commission number, engine number and body number provide the only positive identification. The TR gearboxes were essentially the same as the Triumph 2000/2500 series of saloon cars and thus there is considerable intermingling of gearbox numbers including a ‘CD’ series. In general the axle and engine numbers follow the chassis number.
In some cases specific commission numbers are quoted in the text where a specification change occured in the middle of a model year range. Check your commission number against the chart below to determine your car’s “theoretical” model year. It appears Triumph used the “body number” as a separate identifier, but they seem to have always used the commission number with the numbers reversed and letters used as a suffix rather than a prefix: Thus a car with the commission number CC53876 would have a body number of 53876CC.įor ease of use we use model years as applications wherever possible. The commission numbers live with the body shell and chassis assemblies. Engines, gearboxes etc., can be exchanged and thus new serial numbers will appear on those major units. The commission number is the one which should live with your car forever. Use of these numbers is the best way to ensure that you order and receive the correct parts.
